Jesenia R. Katz. "Advertising and Construction of Violent White Masculinity

Description
Violence in advertising is almost always gendered male. 350

Analysis
~Male icons are always strong, aggressive, and violent., Ex. Eminem. 352
~Violence is typically programmed as male behavior in popular culture and history. 353
~The use of military and sports enhances masculinity of products. 354
~Males always feel insecure about their masculinity. “Muscles separate males from one another”. Advertising makes this more apparent. 356

Vision
Need a more sophisticated approach to understand construction of masculinities in this culture of ours. 357

Strategy
Continue examination of how men are being represented, especially in our society and around the world. Also begin to evaluate other places where male violence is displayed, ex: comic books, toys, etc. 357
